Sometimes the obvious need to be said. Now we will talk about the tips to save money that everybody knows, your parents probably used to ask you to do those things, yet, people don’t do it. That’s why it’s good to remember those easy and obvious ways to cut costs and save more money.
1. Turn Off the Lights…
… when you are not using that space anymore. Not only that but also swap your light bulbs for LED light bulbs, those use around 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs. You can also check your bill to see how much you are currently paying per kWh and compare to what other providers would charge you, maybe it’s time to move to another energy provider.
2. Cook Your Own Meals
Cook your own meals and buy seasonal fruits and vegetables.If you don’t really enjoy cooking one thing you can do is meal prepping for the week, this way you will cook only one day and have different meals stored in your fridge. This will reduce the chances of you ending up ordering food delivery because if you do order it you will not only be spending more on that food but be wasting the money spent on the food you cooked that will end up going to the bin if you don’t eat it on time. There are many books and videos about it online, search for meal prepping for the week or batch cooking and be creative.
3. Use Public Transport
If you can, use public transport, bike or walk to commute. Not all cities have good public transport and maybe you live far away from everything so a car is essential for you. But maybe not, half of the people live in town or cities so there’s a lot of chances that you reading it can walk or use the public transport more often. Besides being good for your wallet it’s good for the environment and even for your productivity. When you are driving you cannot read, study, text, watch videos or at least you should not be doing all those things that can easily be done on a bus or train.
4. Cut Back on Rent
Rent is usually the most expensive category in our monthly expenses. A tip to reduce this cost is sharing the place, get roommates, if you already have housemates then maybe move to a smaller room or to another neighbourhood. Be careful though to don’t trade six of one for half a dozen of the other, I mean if you move to a neighbourhood where rent is cheaper will you end up spending more on commuting? Are the groceries price there the same or more expensive? Pay attention to all those variables before taking a decision.
5. Fix Things Yourself
I’m sure that whatever you need to get fixed, there’s a video online teaching how to fix it. From sewing to fixing a piece of furniture, there’s millions of online content for it and it will help you reach your budget goals quicker.
